My first thought was for this as an exercise in joining the tones, but it can also be played detached. After the first two bars the &#8216;simile&#8217; means that you&#8217;d be expected to continue with the same phrasing: I was too lazy to put all of the slurs in!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, though, let&#8217;s take the &#8216;tune&#8217;: it&#8217;s the first note of each set.
